Christmas 2008

We had a ton of fun this year. We spend Christmas day at home and the boys opened their presents. Then we headed to Danville to my parents to have a Filet Mignon & shrimp dinner and open presents with them.

(For those of you who voted on the poll. "Other" was the correct answer. I was tipped off to that when James voted "other" shortly after I created the poll.)

Sunday Dec 21st after church post...

WOW! It is SUPER cold! It was so windy and rough today. We had 57 in attendance in church this morning which is down from a normal sunday because of this weather plus many are out sick. (I think I may have forgotten to mention last week that a teen girl got saved.)

We gave the bus kids Christmas presents today. With the weather we were only able to hand gifts out to about 1/2 the kids.

We had a nursing home Christmas service this afternoon at 2pm. We enjoyed time of encouraging those shut-ins. We did something I had never done before which was Christmas carol up and down the halls of the nursing home. (Some folks closed their doors! Others came out to see!) We handed out the containers of homemade cookies that we had put together from tuesdays ladies meeting.

Tonight we had a man get baptized. Right as I was up on the other side of the baptismal to take the picture of him coming up out of the water, the camera flashed the words "battery empty" and turned off! Bummer. Tomorrow James is doing a funeral and then we have a Police Chaplain Dinner to attend. I'm so glad Kristy is babysitting. The kids will be in good hands. (Poor Kristy!)

Dec. Ladies Meeting

We had a great time for our december ladies meeting at our church. Of course we had to pick the worst weather day yet! We still had 14 ladies attend, which was such a blessing to

me! We had great door prizes and played cookie bingo and had a white elephant exchange.

Praise the Lord...

We are so excited at TBC. 2 people followed the Lords leading and were saved Weds. night at church. A teen boy and a man. Also a lady who is the parent of a van kid came to church and went forward for assurance of her salvation. We had 47 in attendance on a weds night which was a praise in itself!

Update on my dad (Weds Dec 10th)

Today my dad gets to come home from the hospital. They will be able to still try and clear up the infection from home. I am sure my dad is so sick of the hospital by now! I know St. Francis has some of the best hospital food around though. In 2002, after my 2nd hip replacement I discovered how good the food was there. It will be nice for him to have a nice home cooked meal tonight.

Saturday update on my dad...

Well praise the Lord... My dad had surgery late friday night and they were able to save his leg. The doctor very clearly admitted he is not hopeful with this new knee. He put in the knee that has medicine in it and is meant to just be a temporary knee. The goal is to use this knee for him to be mobile while the infection clears up. If in a few months the infection does clear up they will put in a permanent knee.

Last night/early saturday morning, his leg was bleeding and it took 3 nurses to put pressure on the leg to have it stop bleeding. Also he had a fever of 103 degrees very early this morning. We are still just waiting a while to see what will happen. We are just thankful at this point that his leg is still saved and there is a chance he can keep it. I will keep this blog updated throughout the day.

Update on my dad...

My dad is still in the hospital. I appreciate your prayers. They postponed his surgery until tonight (Friday) later in the afternoon His blood was really thin so they treated him with 3 bags of blood thickener but it just wasn't like it should be to be in surgery. The plan right now is to go in and see the knee and the doctor right then will decide the course of treatment. My dad has scar tissue around his knee so it might be too bad to take a new knee. (In that case they will amputate 2 inches above his left knee) If the doctor decides he will give my dad a knee there is a temporary knee that has medicine in it they would use for 3 months and if the infection is gone in those 3 months then he would get a new knee yet again, a permanent knee. We are just praying that the Lords will is revealed through the doctor today. Thanks for your prayers!

The FLU!!!

Weds. night after church I came home and just knew something wasn't right. I had the feeling I had the flu. I sure enough was up until 5am sick. I will spare all the details. One good thing came of it... I lost 5lbs! Ha. Unfortunately it was all water weight so I won't have much time to enjoy it.

Last night Marc and Andrew were both vomitting. Poor little guys. So far Matthew and James do not have it. I am just praying it is all over. Today I feel good and have very thoroughly cleaned the house to get rid of all the germs. I hate the flu!

My Dad in Hospital...

Thank you for your prayers for my dad, Jack. He is still in the hospital with an infection in his leg. He has been there since Sunday. We got the results of the culture they did on his open sore to hear it was NOT pseudomonus so PRAISE the LORD for that. That would certainly mean he would have his leg amputated. They treated him with antibiotics all day yesterday in hopes that he would leave today, however...

Last night things took a turn for the worst over the course of the night. His knee which was replaced last year, the prosthesis has been affected by this infection. They are sending him from Hendricks Hospital in Danville to St. Francis in Mooresville to do emergency surgery to take out the knee and see once it is taken out if it can be replaced or if they must amputate. The infection is really bad so we are prepared for anything.

Please continue to pray for my dad, Jack. Thank you!
